Maybe because I am Chinese and my mind instantly seeks out all the loopholes in systems, but it seems to me that if you want to model a Constitution on a past polity with MANY recorded damaging and fatal flaws, you would design your own Constitution to anticipate precisely those problems faced by your model.
Where in the Founding Fathers do we read of what provisions they made for immigration crises or did they just glibly says, oh well, our Constitution just magically works if we have a moral and religious people, against St Paul's expressed dictum that the law was written for the unrighteous and not the godly?
It is an extremely poorly designed system not to anticipate and head off problems you can already foresee and learn from history.
